The Caribbean is not a collection of small, land-constrained economies. We are an expansive ocean region ready for investment.

World Investment Forum 2026

At the World Investment Forum in Doha, CAIPA President Ms. Kaye Greenidge delivered a powerful, unified message across two critical forums: UNCTAD’s Blue Economy Roundtable and the Renewable Energy Transition Pipeline session.

A heartfelt thank you to UNCTAD for putting small island developing states at the center of this crucial conversation, and sincere gratitude to our moderators, Ms. Chantal Line Carpentier and Courtney Fingar, alongside fellow panelists from Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and our global financial partners for the enriching dialogue.
The core takeaway? The Caribbean has the proof, the momentum, and the projects. What we need now is to bridge the gap between regional commitment and global capital through unified action.

Key highlights from the addresses:

  • The Blue Economy Opportunity: SIDS ocean territories are 10 to 50 times larger than their landmass. From pioneering blue carbon frameworks in The Bahamas to Jamaica's $80M transshipment hub expansion, the region is actively working to turn ocean assets into bankable regional pipelines.
  • Turning Crisis into Raw Material: Rather than treating Sargassum seaweed purely as an environmental cost, Caribbean entrepreneurs are already converting it into biofuel, bioplastics, and organic fertilizer. CAIPA is calling for the region's inclusion in the Global Seaweed Initiative to scale these ventures.
  • Accelerating the Green Energy Pipeline: Renewable energy is thriving and competitive in the Caribbean. Landmark projects, like Dominica's newly operational 10MW geothermal plant and landmark solar-and-storage initiatives in Barbados and Jamaica, prove the business case is sound.

The Path Forward: Aggregation & Partnership

Global investors often see individual island markets as too small or risky. The strategy moving forward is aggregation, pooling regional demand, sharing risk through blended finance, and presenting a unified SIDS investment pipeline to global infrastructure funds.

CAIPA stands ready to collaborate with global partners to fund project preparation and bring these high-impact blue and green portfolios to the world stage.
